Now is the time to share the 2014 Greywacke Archive collection – two bottles each of the 2014 wild sauvignon, chardonnay and pinot noir (6 x bottles in total).

This limited release presentation pack is accompanied by a signed archival print from Kevin Judd’s ‘Colours of Marlborough’ series.⁠

WINE TASTING NOTES:

Greywacke 2014 Wild Sauvignon – Imagine an almond friand full of white nectarine, blood orange and rock melon – laced with linseed, tarragon and lightly smoked tea. This is an alternative style that is both intricate and textural, a delicious concoction created by fermenting sauvignon blanc entirely with naturally occurring yeast.

Greywacke 2014 Chardonnay – An alluring combination of cumquats, peaches and yellow grapefruit melds with the more savoury aromas of almond nougat, vanilla beans and marzipan – an opulent concoction that is infused with a charry smokiness. The savouriness carries through onto a wonderfully dry, but rich and powerful palate that has great texture and concentration – evidence of this wine’s low-intervention genesis.

Greywacke 2014 Pinot Noir – A sweet-scented compote of poached Black Doris plums, raspberries and black cherries with a spoonful of homemade strawberry conserve stirred in for good measure. A highly fragrant style of Marlborough pinot with cinnamon and clove spiciness – a dense structure, generous palate weight and a long, lively finish.

Huia Sauvignon Blanc shows a good aromatic intensity with bright floral note of elderflower and lime blossom. The wine is layered with flavours ranging from guava, melon, gooseberry and lime zest.

Because a small percentage of the wine was aged in a little neutral oak, it has the complexity and softness to be a delicious match with food.

Seafood like fresh oysters, prawns, scallops, steamed mussels and marinated fish are a given but this little juicy number is a hit with seasonal asparagus and a wide variety of cheeses.

Dark, deep ruby-red colour with purple hues. This has a full and evenly expressed bouquet of ripe dark raspberry and red cherry aromas. The nose is a little restrained with subtle reductive mineral notes present, gradually unfolding dark herbal nuances with oak toast and perfumed florals. Medium-bodied, rich and lusciously concentrated flavours of dark berry and raspberry fruit form a dense core. The mouthfeel has a slipperiness and sweetness, and the palate is very smooth flowing. Fine-grained tannins are in the background and lively acidity provides tension and energy. Though tightly bound, the concentration and linearity carry through to a very long, firm and fine finish with raspberry fruit, minerals and spice elements (vintage subject to availability).

One located in the Rapaura region and is un-irrigated while the second is located towards the Upper Wairau on Fareham Lane. The first thing you will notice is the intense aroma of this wine with notes of citrus and tropical fruits.
